VanderHamm, Alberta D.
Alberta D. VanderHamm, 87, of 3642 Clark Rd. SE, Cedar Rapids, went to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 20, 2011, at her home. Services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth of Cedar Rapids, Allan (Athena) of Seattle, Wash., and Philip (Judy) of Littleton, Colo.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant sister and three brothers.
Alberta was born Sept. 28, 1923, in Sigourney, the daughter of Thomas and Elma Fischer Beall. She graduated from Sigourney High School and from Iowa State. She married Roland L. VanderHamm on August 18, 1949, in Sigourney. He died in 1997. Alberta was a home economics teacher in Stanhope, Collins and Wilson High School and Junior High in Cedar Rapids.
She was a member of Cedar Rapids Home Economics, a 58 year member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church where she participated in the Christian Women's Club, Life Line Sunday School and the Women's Bible Study. Alberta's hobbies included homemaking activities, especially cooking, flower gardening, sewing, playing bridge, square, round and ballroom dancing, reading and Bible study time with family.
Her love for her sons and their families and friends was surpassed only by her love for her Savior.
Memorial donations may be given to Aid to Women, Camp Courageous, the Salvation Army or the charity of the donor's choice.
