Van Winkle, Rodney 'Rod' Dean

Rodney “Rod” Dean Van Winkle, 48, of Marion, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2013. The family will greet friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Private family burial will take place.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; three children, Cory (Alysha Cornelius) of Cedar Rapids, Shay (Kristin McCarthy) of Marion and Chris (Wendy Hamer) of Marion; two granddaughters, Aliyah and Aubriana; brother-in-law, Rich Cooling; three nieces, Christine Anderson, Chelsea Cooling and Cheyanna Cooling; and his beloved dog, Jax.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Teresa Cooling.

Rodney was born Dec. 4, 1964, the son of Darrell and Joann (Thompson) Van Winkle in Cedar Rapids. He attended Washington High School. On Feb. 28, 1987, he married Janet Louise Mikesh in Cedar Rapids.

Rodney enjoyed his children and grandchildren, camping, hunting, fishing, spending time with friends, and watching the Steelers.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at Farmers State Bank.
