Van Waus, Gene Joseph 'Pete'
Gene Joseph “Pete” Van Waus, 80, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at Brooklyn Community Estate, Brooklyn. Private family services will take place. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.
Gene is survived by his stepdaughter, Deb York; his nephews, Bill Van Waus, Dave Van Waus, Russell Van Waus and Daniel Van Waus; and his a niece, Joan Van Waus Robinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Van Waus; and a nephew, Thomas.
Gene Joseph Van Waus was born Sept. 20, 1932, in Victor, Iowa, the son of Arnold and Lylia (Mitchell) Van Waus. He graduated from St. John's Catholic High School in Victor and served in the U.S. Army for two years, stationed in Germany and Belgium during the Korean War.
Gene farmed and also worked for Krauss Furniture in Amana. Gene married Ruth Slaymaker in 1963 in Ladora, Iowa.
He was a member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Victor. Besides farming, Gene enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
