Van Rowell, Mary
Mary Van Rowell, 86, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at The Meth-Wick Community / The Woodlands, Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A funeral service and burial will be held in Birmingham, Ala., at a later date.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jodie and Chris Hanzelka of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Lauren, Andrew and Samuel Hanzelka, all of Cedar Rapids; and special sister, Margaret Cooley of Alabama. Also surviving are several sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Mary Van Locklear was born Feb. 6, 1926, in Atlanta, Ga., the daughter of Harrington “Van” and Clara (Kilgore) Locklear. On Feb. 28, 1948, she married James A. Rowell in Birmingham, Ala. James passed away Aug. 30, 1981. Mary was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, enjoyed reading and being with her family. Her grandchildren meant the world to her and she especially enjoyed attending their activities.
She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.
