Van De Walle, Frederick Charles
Frederick Charles Van De Walle, 88, of Tama, passed away Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be from noon until service time Sunday at the funeral home.
Fred was born June 17, 1925, in Vining, Iowa, the son of Fred Paul and Carolyn (Postolka) Van De Walle. He graduated from Tama High School in 1943. Fred served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 aboard the USS Tulagi as a radio man. On April 4, 1950, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Dee in Tama.
Fred was an agent with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and a past member of the Tama-Toledo Country Club. Over the years, Fred enjoyed many winters in Texas.
Survivors include one son, Kirk (Myrna) Van De Walle of Bella Vista, Ark.; one daughter, Paula (Bill) Frazier of Van Horne; four grandchildren, Marcie (Derrick) Becker, Jan (Brad) Glendening, David (Kristyn) Frazier and Kelly (Jess) Van De Walle; eight great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Lester Randall of Marshalltown; and a special friend, Elsie Kalinay of Brooklyn.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Phyllis on Aug, 16, 2001; and a sister, Maxine Randall.
A memorial fund has been established.
