Van Bogart, Randy Frank
Randy Frank Van Bogart, 69, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 30, 2013, surrounded by family after battling cancer.
He was born March 24, 1944, in Fayette, Iowa, to Ervin and Mavis (Radloff) Van Bogart. After graduating from high school in Fayette, he worked in Cedar Rapids where he completed his apprenticeship and became a mason. He moved to Aurora, Colo. in 1972, where he was a resident for 34 years. Following a 20 year career as a bricklayer, he opened Van Bogart Carts in the Denver area. He returned to Iowa in 2006 and retired in Cedar Rapids.
He was formerly married to Glenda Eccles and Stephanie Van Bogart. Randy coached competitive and high school fast-pitch softball for a number of years. He also loved playing on softball teams. Randy was a member of Corner Stone Family Church in West Des Moines, where he served hot dog ministry for the homeless. He recently joined Cedar Rapids Family Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ervin “Bud” Van Bogart; brother, Dennis Van Bogart; and son, Brett Van Bogart.
He is survived by his mother, Mavis Van Bogart; wives, Glenda and Stephanie; five children, Kristine Blessing, Catherine (Steve) Cox, Mary (Daniel) Marriott, Dayna Van Bogart and Reid (Tanya) Van Bogart; six grandchildren, Ashley, Derek, Colin, LaShae, Tristan and Stephanie; three great-grandchildren, Kyler, Ian and Alora; sisters, Rhea Van Bogart, Dottis (James) LaGrange, Rhonda (Randy) Stallman, Kim (Bart) Gingrich and Darcy (Peter) Oates; brothers, Delvin “Butch” (Heather) Van Bogart and Kent Van Bogart; sister-in-law, Ruthann Van Bogart; and many nieces and nephews.
Randy was known for his quick wit, hearty laugh, love of children, faith in God and being a fierce card player. He was a loving and kind man.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 5, at Cedar Rapids Family Church by the Rev. Dan Winn.
