Valenta, Charmion R.
Charmion R. Valenta, 91, of Cottage Grove Place died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital after a short illness. A Service of Remembrance will be held on July 6, 2011 at Cottage Grove Place. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen of Solon and David of Bellevue, Neb. She is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, and one sister.
Charmion was born on March 22, 1920 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of George and Elizabeth Millen Chapman. She married William J. Valenta on August 9, 1941 in Chicago, Ill. He died in 1993. Charmion worked in the office for Northwest Bell Telephone Company and retired from there after many years of service. She was a member of Eastern Star and the Telephone Pioneers. Charmion enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and especially the time she spent with family and friends.
Memorial donations may be given to the COPD Foundation or the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital in Charmion's name.
