Val Eugene Abbott, 85, died peacefully of natural causes on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Windmill Manor in Coralville, Iowa.
Val was born on April 2, 1936, in Iowa City, the son of Lloyd and Margaret (Vikel) Abbott. He graduated from Iowa City High School and served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years. Val worked for many years at the United States Mint in Denver, Colo., retiring in 2003. Following retirement, Val returned to Iowa City.
Val was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints and was active in his local congregation. He enjoyed gardening, decorating, and volunteering at the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site in West Branch, Iowa. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his feisty personality and his entertaining stories.
He is survived by three siblings, Francis Drollinger (Chuck) of Iowa City, JoAnn Dahnke (Lyle) of Muscatine and Ralph Abbott (Terry) of Dixon; as well as by several nieces and nephews and many caring friends.
Val was preceded in death by his parents and by siblings, Bennie, George, Lois, Donna Mae and Joan.
