Vacek, Janet L.

Janet L. Vacek, 73, of Wyoming, passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at her home surrounded by family and friends. A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Wyoming Cemetery.

Janet L. Hurt was born April 22, 1940, in Anamosa, Iowa, to Charles and Irene (Newswander) Hurt. She was united in marriage on July 25, 1959, to Robert Vacek in Maquoketa.

Janet worked for Wilson's Meat Packing Plant in Cedar Rapids for 23 years. She also worked at the Clarence Nursing Home and for Eastern Iowa Visiting Nurses. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wyoming. She was an avid reader and loved to attend her grandchildren's activities. She had a great love for her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of Wyoming; three children, Rodney Vacek of Wyoming, Rhonda (Mark) Bickford of Anamosa and Renee (Gary) Leonard of Center Junction; three grandchildren, Dylan Bickford, Shelby Leonard and fiance Derek Denniston and Ryan Leonard; two sisters, Joyce (Joe) Weaver of Ozark, Ala., and Judy; one brother, Chuck (Georgine) Hurt of Cedar Falls; one sister-in-law, Pat Lyon of Wyoming; and special friends, Casey (Jackie) Huston of Wyoming.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
