Usher, Jon D.
Jon D. Usher, 50, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, as a result of a workplace accident. Visitation will be held Sunday, Jan. 6, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
Jon was born on May 28, 1962 to John and Connie Wendling Usher in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Following his graduation from Linn-Mar High School, Jon enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was stationed in Puerto Rico. Jon worked for Nash Finch for over 20 years, and had been employed at ADM since 2006. He enjoyed golfing, spending time with his pups, Anja and Frisco, and was an avid sports fan of the 49ers and Pirates. He especially enjoyed his time with his family and friends, often boasting about his “Usher boys”. Jon will always be remembered for his casual, good nature, his easy laugh, and his willingness to help others.
Survivors include his three sons, Andy (24), Nick (21), and Dan (17), and their mom, Michelle; sisters, Debbie (Jimmy) Willard of Georgia and Sheri (Jim) Hofer of Lisbon; nephew, Jake; nieces, Tara and Danai; and many special friends, including the “J-Team”. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial fund has been established.
