TYLER “TRIGGER” W. BONTRAGER
Cedar Rapids
Tyler W. Bontrager "Trigger", 57, of Cedar
Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, July 11, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospital. A celebration of Tyler's life will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at the Cedar Rapids Moose Lodge, 1820 W. Post Rd., SW.
Military honors will be held at noon, prior to the celebration. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids assisted the family.
Tyler was born Aug. 31, 1963, (four minutes after his twin brother, which he never let him forget) at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, Calif. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1981. Tyler was in the Navy from 1981 to 1985. On his return to Iowa, he worked at the Anamosa Correctional Facility until he retired in 2018.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Lillian and Harlan Sailor; three sons, Chad Begley, Zach Bontrager and Dalton Heick-Trump; grandson, Tyse Lee; brother, Todd, and wife, Kim Bontrager; sister, Kim Bontrager; his stepmother, Ruth Bontrager; half-sisters, Keri VanSant and Kala Bontrager; along with special niece and cousins, Ember, Danielle and Kylie; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Don Bontrager; and his grandparents, Cecil and Mary Bontrager, and Thomas and Kathleen Hobson.
Tyler enjoyed being with his family. You could often find him outside grilling or smoking meats. He loved to golf and enjoyed watching the Cardinals, Vikings and Hawkeyes play. We will miss him greatly.
