Ty L. Smith, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 3 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors include a son, Kris, and his fiancee, Tiffany, of St. Augustine, Fla.; a daughter, Tawnya (John) Monnier of Jacksonville, Fla.; his mother, Dorothy of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Sheri (Jeff) Jackson of Marion. He also is survived by two grandchildren, Jakob and Lauryn; a niece, Lauren; and a nephew, Matthew.
He was preceded in death by his father and his beloved dog, Chewy.
Ty was born March 30 1944, in Champaign, Ill., the son of Erdis and Dorothy Smith. He graduated from Jefferson High School and the University of Iowa. Ty worked at Rockwell Collins and retired from there after 36 years of service.
Ty enjoyed photography, astronomy, biking, the outdoors, and especially the family fishing trips to the boundary waters. He also had great respect and love of all animals.
He was a very caring and kind man who enjoyed time spent with his friends and beloved family.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial fund has been established.
