Ty Joshua Robinson, 44, of Ely, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024. A Visitation will be held from 4 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the church. Friends and family are invited to Parlor City Pub and Eatery in Cedar Rapids, for an informal gathering at noon.
Ty was born on July 11, 1980, in South Korea and grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with his family. As a child, Ty enjoyed bike rides in the neighborhood, teenage mutant ninja turtles, video games, track and field, and basketball. He graduated from Metro High School, where he made many lifelong friends. He was employed at the Cedar Rapids Department of Transportation, where he proved to be an important team member. He loved being active. Even after a recent injury, Ty still found a way to play on several of his beloved volleyball teams - 4 teams just this season. Ty enjoyed sports, riding his motorcycle, learning new things, and working out. As a devout, Christian, spending time with family and friends was most important to Ty.
Ty’s morning would start at My Mom’s Bakery across the street where he frequently ordered Wham Bam drinks and two meat quiches. Days he didn’t or couldn’t go, the owners would check on him, care for him, and bring him treats. On the weekends, you could typically find Ty at Parlor City Pub, surrounded by his friends and drinking mojitos. Large family gatherings consisted of too much food, a nap, and playing with nieces and nephews. He loved spending quality time with his goddaughters. His voice would carry and laughter would linger. Conversations, talks, and debates were deep. You knew when Ty was in the room or nearby. He was a memorable person and his energy was contagious.
Ty was welcoming to anyone. He cared for so many and was always giving to others. He’d do anything to help someone, encourage them to do the right thing, and be their best self. Ty was protective, generous, loving, kind, and fun. He was tough but wore his emotions on his sleeve. His laughter, voice, optimism, passion, and smile will be deeply missed. Ty gave us and left us a lot of love.
Ty is survived and lovingly remembered by his mother, Jeannine Robinson; three sisters, Sinnath (Rick) Hian, Bree (Isaiah) Robinson, and Brittney Stepanek; brother, Troy Robinson; nephews, Veasna, Trae, Talan, and Sawyer; nieces, Davie and Sylvia; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends. His family by heart also includes Amber Mally, Lewis Williams, his godchildren, Arya and Alara, Jessie Mally, Sienna Mally-Nawaz, and Nate Doyle.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Robinson; grandma, Joyce Fritz; and brother-in-law, Stephen Stepanek.
Memorials in Ty’s memory may be directed to his GoFundMe account, created in his honor.
