Tufts, Velda Mae
Velda Mae Tufts, 76, of Marion, died Nov. 29, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Phil Jorgensen and Lynn L'Abbe will officiate at the service. Friends may call starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be at Prairie Hill Cemetery, rural Monticello.
There are no immediate survivors.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don (February 2011); her parents; grandparents; and aunts and uncles.
Velda Mae Rickels was born May 10, 1935, in Jones County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended St. Paul Lutheran Church with her parents. Velda attended county schools before graduating from Anamosa High School. She worked at various jobs in the area. Velda Mae was married to Donald Tufts on May 22, 1955, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Anamosa. They later moved to the Marion/Cedar Rapids area and joined Our Savior Lutheran Church of Cedar Rapids. Velda was a very active member in the church and leader of the quilters group.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church or the quilters group.
