Trusler, Atha 'Micki' Rumer
Atha “Micki” Rumer Trusler, 82, of South English, died July 19, 2012, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Graveside services will be held at a later date in the South English Cemetery. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English is helping with arrangements.
Atha “Micki” Trusler was born Feb. 12, 1930, in Edmore, N.D., a daughter of Frank A. and Vera E. (Proctor) Rumer. She grew up in North Dakota and moved to Iowa in 1951. Micki married Ross Leroy Trusler on Oct. 15, 1971, at the Union Church in South English. She and Ross served as foster parents for 56 children, many with special needs. Ross preceded her in death in April 2003. Micki moved to Middle Amana in 2011.
Micki loved her kids and her dog, Sophie. She enjoyed going to Goodwill and every Sunday eating at Texas Roadhouse.
She is survived by daughters, Linda Roseman of Yuma, Ariz., and Jody Van Zante of Williamsburg; sons, Joel (Julie) Van Zante of Riverside and Craig Wagamon of De Pere, Wis.; stepdaughter, Kathy (Michael) Smith of Bellevue, Neb.; a granddaughter, Brittany (Jereme) Goltz, along with many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lynn Rumer of Thornburg.
Micki was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Lonnie Van Zante; a stepdaughter, Kerry Kunde; and brothers, Dale and Wayne Rumer.
