TRUMAN RICHARD (DICK) HANSON Cedar Rapids Truman Richard (Dick) Hanson, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy of cancer related complications. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel Stateroom. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. All are welcome to a lunch following the service. Dick was born at St. Luke's Hospital on April 3, 1931, to Truman and Glennys Hanson. He attended Arthur Elementary and Franklin schools and graduated in 1949. He attended the University of Iowa until he enlisted in the Air Force in 1951. During his four-year enlistment, he was stationed in Okinawa for two years as a cryptographer during the Korean conflict. In 1955, he married Anita Barrancotta of Lockport, N.Y. Of this marriage two sons were born, Chuck and Robert (Heidi). Anita passed away from cancer in 1984. In 1993, he married Laverna Glenn. Dick worked for many years at Rapids Chevrolet in sales and was a general manager. He received many awards for his work. He later worked at Allen Motors until retirement. Golfing was Dick's favorite activity and he enjoyed the time spent with his many golf friends. He is survived by his wife and sons; a sister, Greta (John) VanFleet; a brother, Denny (Jan) Hanson; and his grandchildren, Hallie (Mitch) Lemaster, Sydney Hanson, Courtney (Mike) Driscoll, Stephanie Kunert and Stacy (Neal) Coleman. Other survivors include a brother-in-law, Bruce Conwell; and the members of the Glenn family, Gregg (Susan), Tim, Julie (Randy) Goetz, Dan (Chris), Jennifer Duetmeyer and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Anita; his younger brother, David; and a granddaughter, Olivia Joy Deutmeyer. Dick was a kind and gracious man and will be greatly missed by all. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Hospice of Mercy, Dr. Wahle and Dr. Pope for the wonderful care they provided to Dick.
