Troendle, Rita G.
Rita G. Troendle, 94, of Lansing, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Thornton Manor in Lansing.
Rita was born June 15, 1918, in Lansing, Iowa, to Gustave and Gertrude (Dee) Schulze. She attended Lansing Public School through the eighth grade. Rita was united in marriage to Carl Troendle in Dubuque on Sept. 8, 1936. Six children were born to this union. Rita worked alongside Carl on the farm and also worked at the Button Factory in Lansing for over 20 years.
She was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing. She enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening and her flowers.
She loved spending time with her family and will be greatly missed by all of them.
Survivors include five children, Janice Keith, Venice, Fla., Ellene Smith, West Union, Richard (Jan) Troendle, Cedar Rapids, David (Freida) Troendle, Mount Vernon, and Suzanne (Greg) Gilbertson, Waukon; 22 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Harris (Marilyn) Schulze, Michigan; and one sister, Gladys Troendle, Lansing.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Gustave and Gertrude Schulze; her husband, Carl Troendle, in 1998; one daughter, Carolyn Thorsten; one granddaughter, Tina Thorsten; and her siblings, Helen Bakenhus, Myrna Steiber, Marvin Schulze, John Schulze and William Schulze.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing. The Rev. John Moser will be the celebrant. Visitation will be one hour before Mass time at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing.
