Trevor Jacob (TJ) Nash, 26, of Corpus Christi, Texas, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died March 1, 2013, in Corpus Christi. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, at The Weiser Church of the Nazarene, Weiser, Idaho. Military Honors Service to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, also in Weiser. TJ will be buried with full United States Marine Corps Honors at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weiser,
Idaho.
Survivors include his parents, Dr. Torrey and Kimberly Nash; brothers, Tanner Nash and Tucker Nash; grandparents, Ken and Lou Anne Kellum; uncle, Kirk Kellum; aunt and uncle, Ken and LeAnn Nash Beebe; and many greatly loved cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lee M. and Grace Nash.
TJ was born in Boise, Idaho, on Jan. 5, 1988, the first of three sons born to Dr. Torrey S. and Kimberly Nash. His family moved to Portland, Ore., in 1992, where Torrey attended medical school. Following this time, the family moved to Grand Rapids, Mich., for his father's residence in emergency medicine. In 1995, the family moved to Cedar Rapids,
Iowa, where they since have resided.
TJ attended elementary, middle and high school in Cedar Rapids. While attending Jefferson High School, TJ was an honor student, earning very high marks in all subjects and excelling on his ACT scores, earning him a presidential scholarship. He excelled in football, starting all four years and playing on both sides of the ball. In 2006, TJ attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, graduating in 2010, earning a bachelor's degree in pre med. The summer after graduating, he signed up for Officer Candidate School with the United States Marine Corps in Quantico, Va. After completing OCS, TJ was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the USMC. Following this, he attended the Basic School in Quantico, Va., where he was chosen for Aviation School.
He then was sent to Pensacola, Fla., where he completed his Basic Aviation School. From there he went to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he completed his Primary Flight Training, earning his wings and was promoted to the rank of first lieutenant. He then was chosen for helicopter training.
Memorials in TJ's honor may be sent to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. Please write: First Lieutenant TJ Nash, USMC, on the memo line.
TJ was born for a fascination for all things mechanical. One favorite memory is of TJ at age 3, driving his little battery powered, blue Power Wheels pickup, with his 2-year-old brother, Tanner, riding shotgun. The students on the sidewalks at George Fox University were seen scattering in all directions. TJ loved life, family camping trips, fishing, boating and flying and he dearly loved his family, friends, the Marine Corps and Jesus Christ, his Savior. He was a much beloved son, brother, grandson, cousin and friend. The years he spent in the Marine Corps were the happiest of his life.
"Rest safely in the arms of Jesus and we will see you and be together again." John 3:16.
