Travis Jr., Oren William 'Bill'
Oren William “Bill” Travis Jr., 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at Crestview Acres, Marion. Funeral Mass will be held 1 p.m. Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church by the Rev. Philip Thompson, with a luncheon to follow. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where a vigil service will begin at 4 p.m.
Survivors include his son, John (Lorraine) Travis; a grandson, Steven Travis; a granddaughter, Leah Travis (Easton Ayers); and a great-granddaughter, Evaiah Elizabeth Ayers, all of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Renee Reilly, Margie O'Connell and Mary (Ken) Goodell, all of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marjorie Travis.
Bill was born Dec. 25, 1921, in Mount Vernon, the son of Oren and Anne (Harrington) Travis Sr. He married Marjorie F. Lillis on June 7, 1947, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Bill was a meat cutter for the Piggly Wiggly and Eagles food store. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, a scoutmaster and he served in the Army during World War II. Bill enjoyed playing cards, playing golf and traveling with Marge. They later retired and lived in Tucson, Ariz.
Bill was a lighthearted gentleman with a constant smile that brightened everyone's day. He always offered a helpful hand to anyone who needed it. He will be deeply missed.
