Topness, Darlene L.
Darlene L. Topness, 75, died Thursday, May 17, 2012, at her home following a long courageous battle with cancer. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Edgewood Family Fellowship Church, 621 Edgewood Rd. NW, by Dr. Craig Bex. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church on Monday from 4 until 7 p.m. and Tuesday after 10 a.m.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Earnest; children, Michael (Sara) Rion, Tim (Kim) Rion Topness, Sheryl Doss and Pati (Steve) Williams, all of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers; two grandchildren, Joshua and Caleb Michalec; and one great-grandchild, Tanner Michalec.
Darlene Lorraine Topness was born June 20, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Harley Obed and Theola Margaret Wiggins Sisco. She was united in marriage to Earnest H. Topness on May 6, 1967, in Cedar Rapids. She worked at Rockwell Collins as an inspector for 27 years, retiring in 1991.
Darlene loved volunteering with the Salvation Army and Aid to Women/Mission of Hope. She enjoyed her Red Hat Group and meeting with many friends for lunch.
Memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa Children's Cancer Center or the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Nabi, nurse Molly, her niece, Brenda Thomsen; and to all the hospice caretakers for their care and compassion in the past.
