Tony L. Huebsch, 94, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A memorial service will then be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept 23, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Cedar Rapids, with Rev. Roger Grandia officiating. Inurnment with military honors will take place on Monday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor, Iowa.

Tony Louis Huebsch was born May 12, 1929, in McGregor, Iowa, the son of Fredric and Abbie Mae (Heath) Huebsch. He attended the University of Iowa, obtaining a BA in journalism, acquiring recognition as a Phi Beta Kappa and later earning an MBA. On Nov. 4, 1951, he married Suzanne Tagge in Durant, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Air Force and the Reserves from 1951 until 1966. Tony worked for Rockwell-Collins from 1954 until retiring in 1993 as the Director of Communication & Advertising.

Tony grew up with the Mississippi River, the hills and forests of northeast Iowa very much a part of his life. This provided him a wide range of interests including religion, family, boating, photography, aviation, history, literature, arts and music.

Serving his community was always paramount. Tony was a 50-plus year member of the Thursday Noon Optimist Club and at various times served on the Board of Directors for the Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Community Theater, and the Cedar Rapids Symphony. He served on the Coe Thursday Forum committee and the Resident Council at Cottage Grove Place. Tony was a SCORE Counselor mentoring new business owners, and he tutored adults learning English. He volunteered at the Community Health Free Clinic and the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry. Tony took pride in serving in the McGregor American Legion.

Tony’s personal interests were numerous. As a lifelong learner, he was endlessly taking classes, attending seminars, journaling/writing and actively participating in the Cedar Rapids Literary Club. He enjoyed travel, whether it be overseas as a part of his work or an adventure with Sue. The Mississippi River was always an important part of his life. He and Sue owned numerous boats and eventually bought a second home overlooking the marina in McGregor, Iowa, where their weekends were filled with friends, family and fun experiences. Music was also an important part of Tony’s life. He sang for many years in the Westminster Presbyterian Church Choir and the Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale and spent countless hours playing the piano. He was an avid tennis player in his younger years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Fred.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Suzanne (Sue); son, Scott (Judy) Huebsch of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughters, Rebecca (Jeff) Newmeister of Eldridge, Iowa, and Katherine Hanson (Jon Hayes) of Sachse, Texas; and his five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to Westminster Presbyterian Church (1285 3rd Ave. SE) or Orchestra Iowa (119 3rd Ave SE).
