Toni Beall
TONI (OGDEN) BEALL
Cedar Rapids
Our beloved mother, Toni, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, in Grandview Heights Nursing Home in Marshalltown. She had just turned 87 years old the day before. Toni had fought a very courageous battle as her health deteriorated, having congestive heart failure. Even at the end she didn't complain and would always say, "I'm OK" when asked.
Toni was born Dec. 17, 1929, in San Antonio, Texas. She had many brothers and sisters and was one of the few remaining. Toni met and married Lyle Ogden while he was serving in the Air Force. They moved to Toddville and lived there during their first years. As their family grew, they moved to Cedar Rapids in 1961, Lyle being a carpenter and Toni a housewife.
Toni enjoyed many, many wonderful years as a member of Ellis Park Church of God, where she will always be remembered for her beautiful, pretty clothes, her kind sweet smile, and always for volunteering to do dishes after church functions!
After Lyle passed away in 1969, Toni began working at Meth-Wick Manor with the housekeeping staff. She worked there for several years. Toni then met and married Robert Beall in 1976. They were married until Bob passed away from a massive stroke, ironically, also in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Toni then began working at the former Stouffer Hotel in downtown Cedar Rapids. Toni also enjoyed being the "sample lady" for Chick-fil-A at Westdale Mall for
several years.
For many years, Toni attended First Assembly of God Church in Cedar Rapids. In 1996, Toni moved into Village Place in Marion and lived there until her health began to fail. During her 19 years at Village Place, Toni made many friends and loved her time there. She was very fond of Michael in particular, who helped her a lot as she aged.
Finally, in June 2015, Toni's family moved her, to be cared for, to Grandview Heights Nursing Home in Marshalltown. Toni loved her room and the wonderful caring staff and nurses. She also loved her dear friend and nephew, Dann Larmore, who took particularly good care of her, and was also the administrator there. Dann stayed with Toni to her very end.
Toni is survived by her four children: son, David Ogden and wife Helen of Buchanan, SK, Canada; daughter, Jan and husband John Dyrkacz of Webster City; daughter, Judy and husband Rob of Spirit Lake; and daughter, Joyce and husband Steve Whelehon of Ramona, Calif.; grandsons, Mark, Nick and Scott Ogden of Buchanan, Canada, and Kyle Whelehon of Ramona, Calif.; grandaughters, Tashianna Torres of Orlando, Fla., and Kathryn Whelehon of Ramona, Calif.; many great-grandchildren; and a brother, Tom Perales of Sacramento, Calif.
Toni was a strong Christian and loved reading her Bible and mostly loved helping others. She was a good friend to many people. Always a lot of fun to be around, Toni was kind and loving.
We will always love and miss you, Mom, but we are rejoicing that you're with your Heavenly Father at last.
All of Toni's family wishes to thank those who cared for our mother at Grandview Heights. Your love, kindness and friendship to our mom will never be forgotten.
Toni was cremated and a memorial will be held by Toni's family at a later date. She will rest eternally next to our dad and her husband, Lyle, in Shiloh Cemetery in Hiawatha. The Mitchell Funeral Home of Marshalltown will handle the arrangements.
Memorials in Toni's name may be sent to the wonderful place that cared for her: Grandview Heights, 910 E. Olive St., Marshalltown, IA 59158.
