Tomas, Minnie L.
Minnie L. Tomas, 90, of Oxford, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at the Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Oxford United Methodist Church, where Minnie had been a longtime member. Burial will follow at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Memorial donations can be made in Minnie's memory to Rose Haven Nursing Home, Oxford First Responders or the Fraternal Order of Eagles c/o Diabetes Research Center.

Minnie Lucile Rotter was born Sept. 4, 1921, in rural Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of Ben and Minnie Louise (Binz) Rotter. She was united in marriage to Leo John Tomas on Dec. 16, 1941, in Davenport. The couple resided and raised their family in the Oxford area where for several years Minnie worked as a cook at Clear Creek Community Schools. She was one who let you know what she meant, played cards determined to win, enjoyed dancing with Leo and tending to her flower and vegetable garden! She loved to bake (most known for her famous kolaches!), cook, cheer on her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids no matter what, this was just how it was to Minnie.
Her family includes her six children and their spouses, Sharon Barnhardt (Graham) of Charlotte, N.C., Judy Beckler (Elmer) of Oxford, Mary McAtee (Gene) of Olin, Gary Tomas (Nancy) of Solon, Allen Tomas (Sandy) of Oxford, and Curtis Tomas (Waneta) of Iowa City; 17 grandchildren, John Scheetz, Joel Scheetz, Courtney Jensen, Jamie Beckler, Dana Johnson, Carol Novey, Stacey Voss, Mike McAtee, Shelley McAtee, Kathie Green, Eric Tomas, Andy Tomas, Nicholas Tomas, Jennifer Bernacki, Karrissa Tomas, Amber Tomas and Kaylynn Tomas; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 11 brothers and sisters; and a grandson, Jeff Scheetz.
