Tom J. Wood, 69, of Manchester, passed away at his residence, surrounded by his family, on Friday, June 5, 2015.
He was born June 22, 1945, in Central City, the son of Harold "Huck" and Leila (Wright) Wood. Tom was raised and educated in Central City. On June 28, 1989, Tom was united in marriage to Kay (Vaske) Ridenour in Branson, Mo. They made their home in Manchester.
Tom was employed at the Ryan Creamery and Rockwell-Collins in Cedar Rapids as a supervisor. He retired in 2005.
After retirement, he started working as a school custodian at Lambert Elementary School in Manchester, where he enjoyed making the kids smile by wearing his large collection of humorous T-shirts. He spent many volunteer hours in the Lambert lunchroom working alongside his best friend, Marge Putz.
In his free time he enjoyed working at the Promiseland Winery in Guttenberg, where he was thought of as part of their family.
He loved his family and enjoyed playing golf with his son.
Survivors include his loving wife, Kay Wood, of Manchester; seven children, Shelly (Dave) Klein of Rickardsville, Angie (Kurt) Mullen of Manchester, Bobbie (fiance, Nick Soules) Brooks of Manchester, Austin (Ashley) Ridenour of Jesup, Tina Wood of Alburnett, Tomm (Dana) Wood of Cedar Rapids and Candice (Dan) Sherman of Alburnett; 17 grand-children; one great-grandchild; three siblings, Wanda (Orland) Kramer of Troy Mills, Harold (Cho) Wood of McGregor and Darla (Jeff) Colehour of Stone City; and a sister-in-law, Jan Wood of Cedar Rapids.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Wood and Leila Wright; a brother, Wayne Wood; and his father- and-mother-in-law, Jerry and Mary Vaske.

Private family funeral service will take place. Public visitation: 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester. Interment: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.
