Tom Regennitter, 61, of Glenwood and Oxford Junction, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at Lahey Funeral Home in Oxford Junction, with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oxford
Junction. Burial will be at Mayflower Cemetery in Oxford Junction.
Thomas Glen Regen-nitter was born Nov. 9, 1952, in Anamosa, Iowa, to Glen and Mary Rosine (Lasack) Regennitter. Tom contracted encephalitis during infancy resulting in learning disabilities. He grew up in Oxford Junction and attended special education classes in Amber, Iowa. In 1982, Tom became a resident at Glenwood State Hospital and School in Glenwood.
Tom was a participant in many Special Olympics. His favorite sport was bowling and he earned many medals.
Tom is survived by his parents, Glen and Rosine of Clarence; three brothers, Fred (Judy) of Rochester, Minn., John (Mary Jo) of Fairlawn, Ohio, and Tony (Ann) of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Mary (Bob) Ankenbauer of Portage, Mich., and Cathy (Alan) Cipolone of Brooklawn, N.J.; 13 nieces and nephews; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, me-morials may be given to Special Olympics or Sacred Heart Church in Oxford Junction.
