Tognetti, Betty Jane
Betty Jane Tognetti, 77, of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at Arbor Court Nursing Home, Mount Pleasant. Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Military rites will be held at 2:30 p.m. by the American Legion Hanford Post No. 5 Cedar Rapids. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Betty was born April 6, 1933, in Cantril, Iowa, the daughter of Melvin and Edith (White) Nichols. She married Albert Harry Tognetti on Oct. 17, 1954, in Milton, Fla. Albert died June 15, 2006.
Betty served her country honorably in the United States Navy WAVES serving during the Korean War. After serving in the United States Navy, Betty was a homemaker and enjoyed Thursday garage sales, making wall hangings using glittery costume jewelry, researching family genealogy, bowling, bird watching and writing for the WAVES National Newsletter Unit 53.
Survivors include her son, Natalie Tognetti of Ankeny; stepdaughter, Linda Lamb of Dothan, Ala.; sister, Coleta Garmoe and husband Ron of Mount Pleasant; half sister, Novella Webster of Missouri; and a sister-in-law, Ilynne Nichols of Bushnell, Ill.
Also surviving are two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; parents; one brother, Robert Nichols; and two sisters, Maryetta Starbuck and Bonnie Nichols.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations maybe made to a charity of the donor's choice in Betty's memory.
