Toft, Sharon Marie

Sharon Marie Toft, 53, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, June 23, 2011, following a 10-year battle with cancer, at her home with her husband, Dave, by her side. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 27, at Christ Community Church in Marion by the Rev. Chad Jennings. Family will greet friends from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.

Survivors include her husband of 20 years, Dave; two brothers, Jerry (Sherry) Engelbrecht of Higginsville, Mo., and Dave Engelbrecht of Waverly, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Verna Engelbrecht; and grandparents, Henry and Emma Engelbrecht and William and Hulda Fasse.

Sharon was born Sept. 9, 1957, in Lexington, Mo., the daughter of Marvin and Verna (Fasse) Engelbrecht. She graduated from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. On June 1, 1991, Sharon was united in marriage to David Gordon Toft at Salem United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. She worked as an accounting clerk for IGD Industries for 10 years until her health prevented her from continuing. Sharon was active at Christ Community Church, where she was a Stephen Ministry leader and a member of the Prayer Team. Sharon enjoyed walks in the park, and geocaching with her husband, Dave, and pet dog “Daisy.”

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Christ Community Church, 3000 Alburnett Rd., Marion, IA 52302 in Sharon's memory.
