Tobiason, Learow
Learow Tobiason, 95, of Monticello, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held 11 Saturday morning, Jan. 16, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Monticello, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Daryl Larson will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. today at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.

Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Meta; two children, Barbara (Loren) Dirks, Monticello, and Robert (Tanya) Tobiason, Naperville, Ill.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Bennie, Dennis and Milo.
G. Learow Tobiason was born Dec. 12, 1914, in Wayne Township, Jones County, Iowa. He was the son of Tobias and Anna Behrends Tobiason. He attended the rural schools near his home. Learow started working as a farm hand for Charlie Hinrichs before farming on his own. Learow Tobiason and Meta Ortgies were married Oct. 19, 1938, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in Scotch Grove and Wayne Township. Learow retired from active farming in 1980 but continued to help at planting and harvest until 1994 when he was 80. Learow was a life long member of the Lutheran Church. He was baptized on Jan. 24, 1915, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, where he was confirmed on March 24, 1929. He later transferred his membership to St. Matthew's, where he was an active member, serving in many offices and boards. He also enjoyed playing golf and served on the board of the Monticello Golf Club.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Above and Beyond Hospice for all the care and concern given to Learow and his family.
