Tisor, Cynthia 'Cindy' Ann
Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Tisor, 49, of Washington, Iowa, died Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at Washington County Hospital. She was diagnosed with Stage IV Glioblastoma Multiforme (brain cancer) on Jan. 6, 2004, and at that time she was told she had a life expectancy of 9-12 months. She, through the grace of God, outlived the original prognosis. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1226 E. Washington St. (Hwy 92) in Washington. Pastor Al Kruse will officiate. Casket bearers will be Bill Tisor, Randy Tisor, Jeff Tisor, Justin Sobaski, Scott Bartholmew and Denny White. Honorary casket bearers will be Karl Tisor, Justin Tisor and Nick Tisor. Burial will be in Columbus City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Columbus Junction.
A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Cindy.

Cynthia Ann Tisor was born Nov. 26, 1959, in Wichita, Kan., the daughter of Donald and Leona Dale (Johnson) Tisor. She lived in Washington, Iowa, most of her life, graduating from Washington High School in 1978. After graduating high school, she attended Emporia State University in Emporia, Kan., graduating in 1982 with a B.S.E. degree in business education. She taught Business Education at Hamilton, Kan., for two years before moving back to Iowa in 1984. She was employed at The University of Iowa in various departments from September 1984 to July 2004.
Cindy enjoyed bowling, quilting and Brazilian embroidery. But, above all, she enjoyed her family and friends and the time she spent with them.
Cindy will be dearly missed by her father, Donald D. Tisor of Washington; her sister, Debra L. Tisor, also of Washington; three brothers, William D. Tisor and his wife, Angela, of Ainsworth, Randall L. Tisor of rural Washington and Jeffrey A. Tisor and his special friend, Anita Amrine, of Washington; two nieces and five nephews, Michelle L. Sobaski and her husband, Justin, and their daughter, Halle, of Cedar Rapids, Justin L. Tisor and his wife, Mallory, of Chaplin, Conn., Nicholas D. Tisor of Norfolk, Va., Abigail N. and Karl A. Tisor of Washington, Michael Pytel of Fort Lewis, Wash., and Joseph Pytel and his wife, Lindsey, and their children, Camden and Gracelin, of Wapello; two aunts, Martha Hoy of Cassoday, Kan., and Marjean (Tisor) Holmgreen of Alice, Texas; one uncle, “Leo” Newell Johnson of Council Grove, Kan.; and numerous cousins.
Cindy was preceded in death by her mother, Leona Tisor; maternal grandparents, Leo “Turk” and Florence “Mimmie” Johnson; paternal grandparents, Bessie L. Tisor, Lewis D. and Hortense L. Tisor; two aunts, Phyllis (Johnson) Dolloff and Essie Johnson Skein; and three uncles, Carl Dollof, A. J. Hoy and Jim Holmgreen.
