Timmy Lee “Tim” Bowers, 65, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. Per Tim’s wishes, a cremation will follow, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Tim is survived by his wife of 36 years, Zenaida; two daughters, Sara, and Erin, both of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, David Bowers of Cedar Rapids, and Randy (Janet) Bowers of Taneyville, Mo.; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Tim was born Jan. 12, 1958, to Paul David Bowers and Hilda Elizabeth Lafler in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. Tim joined the Army where he served six years of active duty, including an overseas tour in South Korea. He transferred to the Army Reserve where he served for 21 years and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 2005, he retired from the Army after serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Tim’s civilian career included working for Green Lawn Irrigation and Perkins Restaurant.
Tim had many hobbies. He enjoyed being outside working on his landscaping and gardening. He enjoyed playing video and computer games, especially role-playing games. He liked to read fantasy, mystery, Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings series and Agatha Christie mysteries.
