Thorson, Laurence (Larry) R.
Laurence (Larry) R. Thorson, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at his home following a short illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial: 2 p.m. Thursday, Greenwood Cemetery in Radcliffe, Iowa. Friends may visit at Teahen Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Survivors include a son, Clark (Kathy) of Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law, Beverly Good of Los Angeles, Calif., and Lyla (Fred) Hoffman of Urbandale; brother-in-law, Dean (Shirley) Tjernagel of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Gloria.
Laurence was born Nov. 2, 1920, in Sparta, Wis., the son of Leo and Ethel (Rolland) Thorson. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. Larry married Gloria Tjernagel on July 29, 1956, at Salem Lutheran Church in Radcliffe. He moved to the Cedar Rapids area to work for Collins Radio and later retired from Norand as an electric technician. Larry was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed amateur radio, fishing and hunting.
