Thompson, Richard E.
MANCHESTER - Richard E. Thompson, 71, of Manchester, died at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids on Sept. 21, 2010, following a brief illness. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, by the Rev. John Flaherty, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Manchester. Visitation: 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday before services at the funeral home. Lunch will be following the service.
Richard was born Oct. 31, 1938, in Trenton, Mo., the son of Art and Francis (Stice) Rice. On June 21, 1958, Richard was united to Carolyn M. Schevers. Richard was employed at Midland Forge Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids.
Richard enjoyed watching TV and car races, fishing, animals and the outdoors.
Richard is survived his wife, Carolyn Thompson of Manchester; two sons, Rick and Michael Thompson of Manchester; two grandchildren, Desiree and Cody; and two great-grandchildren, Lilyanne Marie and London Kay; siblings, Linda Kline of Altoona and Jim (Karen) Thompson of Grand Island, Neb.; and two sisters-in-law, Margaret Kay of Cedar Rapids and Susan (Doug) Meader of Marion.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Francis Rice.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Richard's name.
