Thompson, Phillip Charles
Phillip Charles Thompson, 56, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at Heritage Nursing & Rehab, Cedar Rapids. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct., 4, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus and Deacon Dan Hoeger. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Visitation also will be one hour before the service Friday at the church. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Thompson; his mother, Martina Thompson; sisters, Tracy Klein and Mary (Yahya) Aossey; and several nieces and nephews.
Phil was born May 10, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Richard and Martina (McGuire) Thompson. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1975 and served in the United States Air Force. On June 13, 1998, he married Susan Clark in Hiawatha, Iowa. Phil worked as a parts manager for CEI Equipment, retiring in 2010.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Phil had a great passion for motorcycling and made many friends around the country during his rides. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Phil was preceded in death by his father, Richard.
A memorial fund has been established in his memory.
