Thompson, Max C.
Max C. Thompson, 78, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., passed away Monday, Nov. 28, 2011. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Dec. 29 at Woodlands Presbyterian Church, Hot Springs Village. Interment : St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fairfax.
He was born March 28, 1933, in Mercer, Mo., to Jeff and Dorothy (Jones) Thompson. Max served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1964, he received his master's degree from the University of Iowa. Max was a business education teacher and school administrator, retiring in 1992, with 37 years in Iowa education, including Prairie and Cedar Rapids schools. His school received the IOWA Fine Award and National Blue Ribbon School Award presented by President Ronald Reagan.
After moving to the Village, Max began selling real estate to stay active. In his professional and personal life, he took great pride in honesty, fairness and a job done to perfection.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Arkansas Realtors Association, HSV Board of Realtors and Woodlands Presbyterian Church. Max was a former member of HSV Thursday Kiwanis and mentored at Teen Challenge. He and Arlene enjoyed traveling, boating and relaxing at their cottage on the Mississippi River.
Max is survived by his wife of 53 years, Arlene Barta Thompson of Hot Springs Village; son, Kenton (Shannon) Thompson of Fairfax; daughter, Gwen (Doug) Stimple of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister, Patty Edmondson of Ankeny; and grandchildren, Sam and Jack Stimple and Seamus, Tadhg and Flannery Thompson.
