Thompson, Donald N.
Donald N. Thompson, 77, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 30, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Thompson of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Susan (John) Linsley of Lisbon; two sons, Tim Thompson of Cedar Rapids, and Mark (Loraine) Thompson of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Maxwell and Jamie Thompson and Justin and Joseph Mullin; two great-grandchildren, Treyton and Oliver Mullin; and many loving nieces, nephews, friends and family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, DeLoye Thompson; and a sister, Betty Segriff.
Donald N. Thompson was born Nov. 3, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Carl and Alta (Vig) Thompson. Donald married Sharon Lea Slapnicka on Dec. 8, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He worked as a machinist for Quaker Oats. Donald served in the KoreanWar from 1954 through 1956. He was a lifelong member of the VFW. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing, spending time at the cabin in Minnesota and his greatest joy was time spent with his grandchildren, family and friends. Donald will be truly missed by those who loved him the most.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that all donations be made to the American Cancer Association.
