Cedar Rapids
Thomas Melchior Waskovich of Cedar Rapids departed this life Sept. 1, 2017. Burial will be accompanied by full military honors at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 22.
Born June 15, 1949, in Scranton, Pa., Tom was the son of the late John J. and the late Betty (Fueglein) Waskovich Randall.
Surviving are his wife, Cheryl Harris-Waskovich; stepson, Alexander; brother, John J., and nephews, John, Joesph and Daniel, all of Moscow, Pa.; and grandchildren, Killian, Adalyn and Hunter Harris of Cedar Rapids.
Thomas was a petty officer first class in the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He had over a dozen medals and commendations, including a Bronze
Star and Purple Heart. He enlisted three separate times with multiple deployments.
Tom was a kind and gentle man who always spoke the truth. Legends never die because their story lives on, and so does love and Tom. All he ever wanted was pepperoni on his tombstone!
