Thomas W. Traynor, 83, of Cedar Rapids, passed peacefully on June 20, 2024, at his home. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at All Saints Catholic Church with family greeting visitors one hour prior to the service. Tom was born on February 4, 1941, to Tom and Hazel Traynor. They lived in Cedar Rapids, but Tom spent many summers with his grandmother in North Dakota. He attended the University of Iowa after graduating from Washington High School. Tom married his wife Rosemary on November 26, 1966. Together they raised their three sons, Christopher, Eric, and Matthew.
Tom worked in the office of Greyhound Lines for 35 years. He then worked for MCI until his retirement. Tom enjoyed fishing, a hobby he shared with his sons. He was a wonderful father and especially enjoyed helping to teach and watch the boys at their school and sport events. He also loved being a grandfather to his five grandchildren.
Tom is survived by his wife Rosemary; his sons: Christopher (Beth) of Lincoln, NE; Eric (Kristi) of Urbandale, IA, and Matthew (Allison) of Center Point, IA; five grandchildren Alex, Ryan, Carl, Lincoln; and Savannah; his brother Tim (Shirley) and many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to the Hospice staff and volunteers at Unity Point Health for the excellent care they provided to Tom.
