Thomas “Tom” Kane, 86, of Iowa City passed away April 8, 2025.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at 10:00 AM with a luncheon to follow at the church. Burial will follow at Clarence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
Thomas was born on March 31, 1939 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Thomas and Pauline (Koch) Kane. He graduated from Olin High School before serving in the U.S. Army as a medic from 1958 until 1960. Tom then continued his education at The University of Iowa, where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree.
He worked as a property manager for many years as well as a social worker before his retirement. Tom was a devoted member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church for a long time and was also active in Knights of Columbus. He served on the Catholic Welfare Bureau in Los Angeles for 9 years.
Tom is survived by his sisters Mary Hilliard and Teresa Kane, both of Iowa City, niece Julie (Chris) Reimer of St. Louis, MO, and two nephews John Hilliard of Iowa City and Jeff Hilliard of Los Angeles, as well as many great-nieces and -nephews Clara, Ella, Amanda, Liam and Sophia.
