Thomas “Tom” F. Nugent, 92, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on October 13, 2025. Visitation will be held from 4 - 6 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 3855 Katz Drive, Marion, where a Memorial Service will begin at 6 p.m. A Private Inurnment will be held at a later date at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Tom was born February 26, 1933, in Giard, Iowa, to Clarence and Laura (Drahn) Nugent. He graduated from McGregor High School in 1951 and earned a business degree from the University of Iowa in 1955, where he also played basketball for the Hawkeyes. After college, he served as a pilot in the Air Force ROTC program, training at Lackland and Keesler Air Force Bases.
In 1955, he married Charlotte Ihm, who passed away in 2001. He later married Janet Whitting in 2003; she passed away in 2022.
Tom worked in banking for over 40 years, including with Interstate Finance, First National Bank of Marion, and Guaranty Bank of Cedar Rapids, retiring in 2005. He was recognized for his volunteer work in affordable housing, receiving the Governor’s Award from Terry Branstad.
He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed time outdoors and following the Iowa Hawkeyes. Tom knew Jesus Christ as his personal savior and enjoyed online bible study and services with his son, Pastor Peter Nugent.
Survivors include his children, Peter (Kathy) of Kansas City, Paul (Nancy) and Tom (Lynette) of Cedar Rapids, and Lenchen (Bob) Raeside of West Des Moines; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; and brothers, Jerry and Dan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hope Baptist Church, located at 13012 Delmar, Leawood, Kansas 66209.
