Thomas Thompson Jr., 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Mercy House of Hospice. A visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 10:30 a.m. until noon Friday, Feb. 20. A private family inurnment will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
Thomas was born June 29, 1930, in Marion, Iowa, to Thomas and Mary (Oxley) Thompson Sr. He grew up in Marion and spent his entire adult life in Cedar Rapids. Thomas served honorably in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 while stationed in Germany. He worked at Rockwell Collins until his retirement.
Thomas loved watching the Cubs, the Bears and the Hawkeyes. He enjoyed doing crosswords and pull tabs.
He is survived by three sons, Mark (Lisa) Thompson of Meridian, Idaho, Scott (Julie) Thompson of Cedar Rapids and Thomas E. Thompson of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Susan Thompson of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Cody, Josh, Abigail, Danny, Kayleen, Cassie, Chris and Andy; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Brody; brother, Gary (Maureen) Thompson of Cedar Rapids; sister, Karen (Robert) Meroshek of Marion; as well as many nieces and nephews
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Bonnie Mottinger.
Memorials in Thomas's name may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
