Thomas Phillip Saunders, 55, of Cedar Rapids, died suddenly of natural causes
on Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, at his home. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at St. Matthew Catholic Parish in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Private family inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Tom was born Oct. 17, 1963, the son of Phillip and Roberta (Carrothers) Saunders in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Washington High School in 1982 and later went on to Hawkeye Community College to pursue photography. Tom moved to Oregon, where he worked for Cub Foods until his return home to Cedar Rapids in 1999. He began his career at the Marion Hy-Vee working in the meat department, where he worked for the last 19 years.
Tom was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and, in his younger days, enjoyed hunting with his father. More than anything, he loved being a father to his only daughter, Regan. She was the best gift he could have ever hoped for.
Survivors include his daughter, Regan Saunders; his parents, Phillip and Roberta Saunders; his brother, Jim (Susan) Saunders; uncle and aunt, Dale and Peg Carrothers; and niece, Olivia Saunders.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
