Thomas M. Oblinger, 77, of Coralville, died suddenly Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015 at his home. A memorial service to celebrate Tom's life will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at First United Methodist Church, 302 13th St. S., in Grand Junction. Burial will be in Grand Junction Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Iowa Public Television, P.O. Box 6400, Johnston, IA 50131; Ducks Unlimited, c/o Lensing Funeral Home, P.O. Box 167, Iowa City, IA 52242; or First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction.
Tom was born Sept. 29, 1938, in Jefferson, Iowa, the son of Charles and Anne (Bonynge) Oblinger. Tom graduated from the University of Iowa in 1960. He was drafted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1962. Tom was a third-generation owner of Oblinger Clothing Store in Grand Junction. He married Zelda Hester in Grand Junction and they moved to Iowa City in 1982. He worked in sales for a number of years in both Amana and Iowa City.
Throughout his entire life he maintained close relationships with friends and family. He will be greatly missed.
Tom is survived by his two daughters, Heidi Barker (Sean) and Kristen Ivy (Steve), both of Wichita, Kan.; his grandchildren, Owen Barker, Griffin Barker and Annabelle Ivy; his brother, Charles Johnson (Carol); and numerous extended family and loyal friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Zelda; and his sister, Carol Oblinger.
