Eugene McNamara, 66, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. A visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 10, from 4 to 7 p.m.
at Cedar Memorial Park
Funeral Home. A me-morial service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Carol McNamara of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Erin (David Ankney) of Cedar Rapids, Sara (Jim) Edge of Jacksonville, N.C., and Alison McNamara of Cedar Rapids; his parents, Eugene and Alma McNamara of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Ian Huff, Olivia Huff and Devon Ankney of Cedar Rapids, Madison (Ricky House) Edge of Wilmington, N.C., Seamus Edge of Jacksonville, N.C., and Dylan McNamara of Cedar Rapids; three great-grandchildren, Saylor, Cooper and Avery of Wilmington, N.C.; three sisters, Julie (Gary) Mann of Tennessee and Jan (Jeff) Smith and Susan (Tom) Krejci, both of Cedar Rapids; two brothers-in-law, Lyle Mowery of League City, Texas, and Clarence (Janette) Mowery of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Pat (Larry) Petty of Central City; many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends; and his special companions, his dogs, Angel, Cujo and Merry.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Dorothy Mowery; and his grandparents.
Tom McNamara was born May 29, 1949, in
Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Eugene and Alma (Hamer) McNamara. Tom worked from the age of 16 at McNamara Oil, eventually buying the business from his parents. In 2010, Tom sold the business to Hovden Oil Co. and retired in July 2015. He married Carol Ann Mowery Sept. 13, 1969, in Cedar Rapids. Together they shared 46 wonderful years.
Tom was nurturing, innovative, honorable and loving. He enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes, drag racing, fixing cars and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
"Papa Tom" will be remembered as a loving son, husband, father, brother, grandpa and friend to many.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff from Hospice of Mercy and the Ghosh Center for its love, support and tender care given to Tom.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed Hospice of Mercy Hospice and the Ghosh Center.
