Thomas J. Malloy, 68, of Cedar Rapids, died at home on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Visitation:
4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a vigil service and military honors beginning at 4 p.m. Private family burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon; sons, Gerald James (Lisa) Malloy of Tucson, Ariz., and Michael Thomas Malloy (friend, Hanna Burkle) of Coralville; siblings, Gene (Marge) Malloy of Lisle, Ill., Kevin (Pam) Malloy of Cedar Rapids, Teresa (Charles) Fuller of San Jacinto, Calif., Pamela Miller of Cedar Rapids, Denise (Steve) Leas of Fairfax, Daniel (Nanette) Malloy of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Anthony (Becky) Malloy of Riverside, Ill.; mother-in-law, Rose Jenkins of Gadsden, Ala.; sister-in-law, Eva Marie (Chris) Noehl Curb; brother-in-law, Darren Tiernan (Veronica); and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Tom was born in Cedar Rapids on Jan. 5, 1949, the son of Gerald and Dolores (Donohoe) Malloy. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1967 and then served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict. On June 26, 1982, he married Sharon Ann Tiernan in Cedar Rapids. He worked several years with Prestressed Concrete before an accident left him unable to work. Instead, he became a dedicated father and "Mr. Mom" for his boys, spending lots of time with them and being very proud of the men they are today.
Tom was proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed traveling around the country to visit family. He loved to dance, play pool and listen to the Motown music of the '60s and '70s.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Moose Lodge, Eagles Club and VFW.
He will be remembered as being a wonderful man who was beloved by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Frances Malloy Lemanske and Louise Behling; brother, Lawrence Malloy; nephew, Isaac Malloy; father-in-law, James W. Tiernan III; and brother-in-law, Andrew Tiernan.
Memorials are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans.
