Thomas Dale Kessler, 80, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014, at his home.
He was born Nov. 26, 1933, in Lisbon, Iowa, the son of George and Hilda Kessler. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1953 and the University of Iowa in 1958, with a business degree. Tom married Marilyn Mally on Aug. 31, 1956. They had four daughters. Tom worked at Link-Belt in Cedar Rapids for 22 years before owning and operating Babi's Bed & Breakfast in South Amana for 15 years, retiring in 2001. His wife, Marilyn, died Aug. 29, 2000. On March 2, 2002, Tom married Helen Iburg.
He enjoyed dominoes, horseshoes, poetry, working outside and watching the Hawkeyes.
Tom served three terms as an Elder for St. John's Lutheran Church, Marengo, and later joined Immanuel Lutheran Church, Williamsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; daughters, Susan (Merlin) Hicks of Iowa, Sarah (Tom) Breshears of Missouri, Shelley (Mitch) Singer of Florida and Stacy (Mike) Morgan of Colorado; stepson, Helmuth (Christine) Iburg of Williamsburg; six grandchildren; six stepgrand-children; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and sister, Maxine Reihman of Arkansas.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn; sister, Alberta Goslin; brother, Harold Kessler; and stepdaughter, Hope Frederickson.
Celebration of Life service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 9, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, June 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg.
Memorials are for Immanuel Lutheran Church or family choice.
