Thomas Jones III, 68, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral Mass: 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, rural Alburnett. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his daughter, Katherine Jones (Carmon Rote); and his Aunt Marlene.
Thomas Joseph Jones III was born Feb. 1, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, to Thomas II and Geraldine (Etzel) Jones. He attended Regis High School. Tom earned his master's in microbiology from Iowa State University. Tom married Patricia Gerard in February 1972, at St. Pius in Cedar Rapids. They moved to Wichita, Kan., and lived there for many years. He worked as a microbiologist for Quaker in Chicago, Farmland and lastly, AstraZeneca from 1980 until his retirement in 2000. They moved to Cedar Rapids, where Tom enjoyed hunting and target shooting, astronomy, planting flowers, doing yard work, watching animals in his yard, and watching World War II shows and "M*A*S*H." Tom was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; infant children, Sarah and Shawn; and good friend, Jim Cody.
Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society, Cedar Rapids.
