Thomas J. Thomas, 95, of Evanston, Ill., passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, in Evanston. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church located at 501 A Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m. The Rev. Doctor Peter Andronache will officiate. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Murdoch-Linwood

Tom was born on Sept. 22, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, the son of John and Xenia (Kokinos) Thomas. He was a 1945 graduate of Cedar Rapids High Schools and went on to earn his B.A. and M.A. with a Fullbright Scholarship to the University of Iowa. He served honorably during World War II in the U.S. Navy. During his time in the service, he was on a transport trip onboard the USS Antietam for six months, traveling to Honolulu, the Philippines and China. Tom worked in education for over 35 years as a school counselor at Niles North High School in Skokie, Illinois. He enjoyed traveling to Samos, Greece, to visit family for several months at a time. Tom wanted to be remembered as truthful, gentle and fearless. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Tom is survived and lovingly remembered by his sister, Helen Litsis; nieces; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, George Litsis.
Memorials in Tom’s memory may be directed to the St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church.
