THOMAS FORBES Mount Vernon Thomas E. Forbes, 86, of Mount Vernon, died Monday, June 22, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, July 3, at the Lisbon United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Tom Mattson. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at the church. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include his wife, Nancy; children, Catherine (Dennis) Smith of Cedar Rapids, Lynne (Kelly) Logan, and Carol Henry and Daniel Henry, both of Navarre, Fla.; three grandsons, Mike and Matt Logan and Erik Smith; granddaughter, Cassidy (Bobby) Henry Pearson; and great-granddaughter, Bailee Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack; infant sister; and his first wife, Evelyn. Thomas was born June 16, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at his home on Father's Day, and was delivered by his father. He was the son of Harcourt and Cathryn Forbes. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1947. Thomas married Nancy Henry on June 13, 1987, in East Alton, Ill. He worked for Link-Belt as a parts manager and also at Skogman Realty, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Lisbon United Methodist Church, a life member of both the VFW Post 9722 and American Legion Post 480, a 40-year member of Mount Vernon Lodge 112 AF & AM, and Bauman's Coffee Club. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Instead of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Lisbon United Methodist Church "Stained Glass Window Fund" or to the Mount Vernon American Legion "Veterans Memorial Fund."
