Thomas Allan Deutmeyer, 73, of Petersburg, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Dyersville. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave. SW, Dyersville, where a parish vigil service will be at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. John O'Connor will officiate.
Tom was born Oct. 15, 1941, in Petersburg, Iowa, on the family farm, the son of Gregor and Olive (Lueck) Deutmeyer. He married Elizabeth Hermsen on Nov. 14, 1964, in New Vienna, Iowa.
Tom enjoyed music, astronomy, building models, landscaping and spending time on the family farm. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; three children, Alan Deutmeyer of Beaverton, Ore., Thomas G. (Kelley) Deutmeyer of Petersburg and Erin (Travis) Christiansen of Waukee; five grandchildren, Jesse, Samuel, Josie, Shane Deutmeyer and Blake Christiansen; sister, Ruth Sellner of Manchester; and in-laws, Germaine Deutmeyer of Dyersville, Richard (Eileen) Hermsen of Colesburg, Helen (Eldon) Gaul of Petersburg, Bernice (Ken) Vorwald of New Vienna, Roger (Grace) Hermsen of Manchester, Gladys (Harry) Burkle of Dyersville and Dianne Hermsen and Art Hermsen, both of New Vienna.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Roger, James and David Deutmeyer; and in-laws, Joseph Sellner, Harry Hermsen and Joyce Hermsen.
