THOMAS B. WHITLATCH
Cedar Rapids
Thomas B. Whitlatch, 65, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2022, from an aggressive cancer caused by smoking. A public visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom.
Tom was born on March 27, 1956, in Wiesbaden, Germany, to Aryle and Anna (Arnts) Whitlatch. He was the owner of Lapidator Liquidators and was a longtime member of Comahawk Computer Club, Iowa Gold Prospectors, Cedar Valley Rocks & Minerals Society and the Midwest Federation Rocks & Minerals Society.
He had a passion for and loved teaching others about rocks and minerals, as well as hunting for gold in Iowa. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Tom is survived by his wife, Julie Whitlatch; children, Jessica Wilson, Amber (Matt) Baty, Jessica (Ryan) Ritchie and Joshua Sova; grandchildren, Kyle Medlin, Warren Medlin, Shawn Whitlatch, Alissa Malhacheck, Logan Baty, Nikolai Padovano, Corbin Baty and Autumn Ritchie; great-grandchildren, Dylan Medlin; siblings, Kathy (Mike) Wyatt, Chris (Tammy) Whitlatch, Angie (Larry) Eberly, Tony Whitlatch (Sandi Ahomana) and Barbara (James) Vaughn; many nieces and nephews; stepmother, Joyce Whitlatch; and good friends, Dave Hartson and family and Paul Craff and Family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Tom's name to the Cedar Valley Rock & Mineral Society.
